  • Camp Wonderopolis: Free Online Learning Programs

    Camp Wonderopolis is a free online camp aimed at helping campers build vocabulary, science knowledge, critical thinking skills, and literacy skills with fun, interactive activities. Camp Wonderopolis offers five different adventures on topics such as music, engineering, health and fitness, tech, and more. Each adventure includes a week's worth of online and offline self-directed activities for campers to continue their learning throughout summer.

    Colorin Colorado: Summer Learning and Reading

    Colorín Colorado is an online resource providing research-based tools for adults to support English Learners (ELs). Their webpage, Summer Learning Resources for Parents, offers a diverse set of activities in both English and Spanish to promote reading during the summer break. Parents can find information about visiting local libraries, reading guides, and diverse booklists to ensure that reading is relevant and engaging for ELLs.

    Reading Rockets: Literacy in the Sciences

    Literacy in the Sciences connects a mastery of reading and writing skills to understanding science and math including cause and effect and vocabulary development. Specifically targeting parents of early learners, elementary, and middle school children, the website contains 18 tip sheets with book recommendations and activities to help students develop STEM and literacy skills. Topics include animals, numbers, and space to make learning relevant and exciting based on different students’ interests.

    TIME for Kids

    The TIME for Kids digital library provides free access to age-appropriate journalism, helping students understand the news and the world around them, while building their critical reading skills to succeed as active global citizens. The kid's site offers four grade-specific editions, including K-1, 2, 3-4, and 5-6. TIME for Kids also offers a subscription for families, which includes a newsletter that guides adults though the current issue, with activities and tips to engage with young minds.

    Summer Stride 

    Over summer, children can lose essential reading and math skills. These losses add up. Learning Heroes offers a 3-step Summer Stride plans to support families with summer learning and prepare students for the next grade.
