Welcome Back From The Principal
August 11, 2017
Dear Solana Vista Families,
Welcome to the Solana Vista School 2017-2018 school year!!! I hope you had a very fun and restful summer. Our office staff and plant foreman have been working hard to get Solana Vista ready for a new school year, and we are so excited to welcome you and your child in late August!
Over the summer we had some staff changes…
Join me in a warm welcome to…
Kelly Dones, Technology Discovery Lab Instructor
We are sad to say good bye to….
Haesun Lee, off to new opportunities
School hours have changed this year. School hours are 8:30–2:43. Supervision will begin at 8:15 in the mornings and end at 3:00 in the afternoons. The gates will open at 8:15 in the morning. There is no supervision before 8:15. Minimum day hours (during conference weeks) are 8:30–12:05. Supervision will end at 12:20 on minimum days.
Class assignments will be posted on the Parent Portal Demographics Screen after 5:30 pm on Thursday, August 24. Be sure to go to the Parent Portal (https://www.sbsd.k12.ca.us/Domain/1005) prior to August 24 to complete the Student Date Confirmation process. You will not be able to view your child’s teacher if that process is not completed.
Please keep in mind that our staff is working diligently to ensure proper placement for each of our students. In order to create balanced classes, parent requests for a specific teacher will not be accepted. SBSD policy supports the efforts of our teachers and requires a two-week waiting period before any parent requests for placement changes will be considered.
We will be having our Mini Open House on Friday, August 25th from 10:30 to 11:15. This is an opportunity for students and parents to meet their new teachers and visit their classrooms. In addition to meeting your classroom teacher, you will also have the opportunity to get information regarding volunteer opportunities, PTA, Foundation, Boy’s and Girl’s Club, CDC, Dad’s Club, Mission 2 Save, and the yearbook.
Kindergarten families will be getting a letter at our Mini Open House outlining procedures and appointment times for our one-hour kindergarten screening on Tuesday, August 29. The first full day of school for Kindergarten students will be Wednesday, August 30. Our Kindergarten Back to School Night will be held on Wednesday, August 30 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. We invite all of our incoming kindergarten parents to join us for this very informative evening. Childcare will not be provided at Back to School Night, so be sure to plan accordingly.
All classroom teachers will discuss Drop-Off and Pick-Up Procedures with their students on the first day of school to familiarize them with the process and to clarify any questions. Please review our Traffic and Safety Procedures (https://www.sbsd.k12.ca.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=6219) to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff. Please communicate with your child’s teacher where you would like for your child to be picked up after school (blacktop or drive-through) so that we have a smooth dismissal.
A special welcome to all of our new families! You will love our little school on the hill! In order to continued our “Go Green” efforts, please join the Solana Vista Email Notification System (https://www.sbsd.k12.ca.us/Page/1126). Once you join our Email List, you will receive email notification reminding you when our weekly communication/flyers are available for viewing. All school communication will be electronic so it is imperative that you sign up right away. I also encourage you to visit our school website (https://www.sbsd.k12.ca.us/Page/11) regularly for the most up-to-date information.
As you begin your Back to School Shopping, I wanted to let you know that Solana Vista is a “No Zuca Backpack” school. Also, please remember that toys, novelty items, and other non-educational materials are not allowed on campus. Please contact the office staff for further clarification.
Your child is provided a free public school education. Therefore, all materials and supplies for your child's learning in the classroom are supplied by the school district. We understand that parents often want to supplement these materials. If parents choose to donate optional items for the classroom, please check your classroom’s wish lists.
