California Healthy Kids Survey
The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is an anonymous, confidential survey of school climate and safety, student wellness and youth resiliency, and is the largest statewide survey in the nation. It was developed by WestEd and Duerr Evaluation Resources for the California State Department of Education to provide a resource for schools, districts and counties to assess health-risk behaviors, school connectedness, school climate, protective factors, school safety and resilience among the youth. It also enables schools and communities to collect and analyze data regarding local youth health risks and behaviors. The survey results are used to guide efforts to reduce student risk behaviors and build schools that provide safe and supportive environments for all students. Results are also used in combination with other data to support district and site goals and action steps.
All students in the Solana Beach School District in grades five and six will have the opportunity to participate in the CHKS survey during the month of December in 2024. Participation in the survey is voluntary. No names or any other identifying information is connected to the answers except for the name of the school. The survey is administered online and is typically completed in 45-50 minutes. Active parent/guardian consent is required for students in grades five and six.
Beginning in the 2024-25 school year, this survey will be administered annually as one of many metrics to support our Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) goals.
