Benefits at a Glance
Solana Beach School District offers a generous and comprehensive benefits package to full-time employees and their eligible dependents as follows:Medical - UnitedHealthcare (UHC) HMO Network 1 Package A or E, UHC Alliance HMO Plan and KaiserVision - VSPChiropractic - Optum HealthMental Health - Optum HealthDental - Delta DentalLife Insurance - HartfordDisability Insurance - Unum
For full-time employees working seven hours or more per day, the District pays the full cost of Kaiser or UHC Network 1 Package A for the employee and one dependent. Family coverage is offered at a small cost to the employee. Benefits include vision, chiropractic and mental health. Additionally, the District pays for Delta Dental for the employee plus one family member, and there is a small cost to the employee for family coverage. The District also pays the cost of basic life insurance and disability for the employee.
For part-time employees working between 6 and 6.99 hours per day, the District pays the full cost of Kaiser or UHC Network 1 Package A for the employee and one dependent. Family coverage is offered at a small cost to the employee. Employee is entitled to enroll in medical only.The amount that an employee may be required to pay for coverage changes annually. These amounts are announced during the open enrollment period held in November. Any required employee contribution is made through automatic payroll deduction on a ten-month basis, September through June.
Eligible employees may also choose to participate in a Health Care and/or Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
Effective Date of Coverage
An employee’s coverage under the district-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance plans becomes effective as follows:
Employees hired and having a start date between the 1st and 15th of the month — Benefits will become effective on the first day of the month following the first day of paid service in a monthly, full-time salaried position of at least 7 hours or more. EXAMPLE: An employee starting on August 10th would become eligible for benefits on September 1st.
Employees hired and starting work after the 15th of the month — Benefits will become effective the first day of the second full month of paid service in a monthly, full-time salaried position of at least 7 hours or more. EXAMPLE: An employee starting on August 26th would become eligible for benefits on October 1st.
All enrollment forms must be received in the Human Resource Office no later than 10 days after the date of hire.
