Welcome to the Solana Beach School District. It is a privilege and honor to be selected to lead this exceptional school district where everyone is truly focused on the success of each child. I want to commend the Board of Education for their commitment to this mission as it is through their leadership that this priority flows throughout the entire organization. As I interact with teachers, staff, and principals, their passion and pride are contagious. It is easy to see how proud they are of their programs, services, and collective efforts intentionally focused on supporting each child’s success. Our schools are also fortunate to have active and supportive families working alongside us as partners. In addition, we are grateful for the Solana Beach Schools Foundation which provides incredible support and resources to our schools. It is through these combined efforts the Solana Beach School District celebrates such excellence.
As the newly appointed superintendent, I would like to extend a warm welcome to families new to the Solana Beach School District and introduce myself to those returning to our schools. I have been in education for over 30 years and believe strongly in our public schools. I am joining the District after most recently serving as the Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services in the Ocean View School District (OVSD), a K-8 district serving approximately 8300 students in Huntington Beach. Prior to OVSD, I served for over 25 years in the Capistrano Unified School District as a teacher, site and district administrator, and assistant superintendent of personnel. Then and even more today, I am committed to the success of all students. I also believe strongly in working collaboratively. Together, teachers, staff, parents, leaders, and the community produce better results. It is through effective partnerships we are able to provide rich opportunities and experiences that benefit all children.
On a personal note, I have been married for almost 30 years, have three children, and love to read, hike, ride horses, and spend time with family and friends. I am truly looking forward to becoming actively involved in the communities of the District. As your superintendent, I look forward to getting to know students, staff, parents, and community members by name. So, as you see me visiting schools, attending school and community events, or even at the market, please take a minute to introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you.
