Awareness and preparation for any disaster is of utmost importance. By knowing about the disaster, and the steps that should be taken, the effects of the disaster can be reduced. Knowing how to prepare for a disaster, how to deal with it and how to recover from it is the key. American National Red Cross has created a web page in 14 different languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, Farsi, French, Hmong, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Lao, Russian, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese) for disaster preparedness.

The County of San Diego Office of Emergency Services has developed a Family Disaster Plan, Personal Survival Guide, and various DVD for disaster preparedness.
