The Great Kindness Challenge (2023)

  • The Great Kindness Challenge, January 23 - 27, 2023

Solana Beach School District is participating in the Great Kindness Challenge during the week of January 23-27, 2023, providing opportunities for staff, students, and families to apply Social Emotional Learning skills. Our theme this year is “Kindness Grows,” and the counseling / guidance instructor team has created planned activities for each day of the week that promote the theme, inclusiveness, and spirit.

SBSD participated in this year’s international event, presented by San Diego’s Kids for Peace nonprofit organization, to nurture its culture of kindness as a “Kindness Certified School District.” Solana Beach resident, Dr. Jonathon Collopy, through the generous donation of the Harbaugh Foundation, helped secure kindness bracelets for each student and staff member in SBSD. When students or staff “catch” someone being kind, they give away their bracelet to that person in recognition of the act of kindness.

According to Superintendent Jodee Brentlinger, “Our overarching goal is to demonstrate and reinforce that kindness is something we do every day, not just one week out of the year.”

We appreciate the support of our students, staff, Solana Beach Schools Foundation, parent leaders, families, and community members.
