Week of September 15, 2019
Hello Skyline Families,
Each week at Skyline has been better than the last. As I visit classrooms I notice solid instructional practices, community building, and effective routines and structures. I’d also like to note that parents are an integral part of our work and we have a few opportunities for parent volunteerism and would love your help. Please see the sections below to volunteer at Skyline.
Our district has a focus on social emotional learning in order to support the overall growth of our students. It is important to us as a staff to understand our students’ self perception and how they feel about their social environment. As part of our whole approach to student wellbeing, we will use a universal screener to learn more about our students. Please click on the link below see the letter below to learn more about the screener which will be administered in a few weeks to our students. https://www.sbsd.k12.ca.us/cms/lib/CA01001886/Centricity/Domain/364/2019-20 Parent SEL Letter - 8-29-19.pdf
Starting Fast Feet!
Fast Feet is an optional exercise program for students before school each day. From 8:35-8:50 a.m. students can walk or run laps around the field to earn feet tokens. Parent volunteers are needed to help students find their Fast Feet cards in the morning, stamp their cards as they complete laps and pass out feet tokens. If you are interested please contact Jill Carter email@example.com. We’d love to have you once a week, once a month, or every day. Whatever works for your schedule!
Are you interested in volunteering your time during lunch? Do you have a specialty, skill, or hobby you would like to share with our students? We hope you will join us as we launch our lunch clubs this year. Some of our students find lunchtime to be overwhelming and we want to give them a space to be able to enjoy their lunchtime. Additionally, some students are interested in learning more about a subject or a skill and who else would be better to teach them than our parents! Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be a part of our lunch clubs.
Superintendent’s Facilities Task Force
The district is looking for two parents who would be interested in joining our Superintendent’s Facilities Task Force. Purpose: We believe an ongoing focus of our facilities will ensure they are safe, comfortable, and optimized for the maximum success of students and staff and when maintained on a regular basis maximizes funding resources. Some of the outcomes of the group are as follows: 1. Quarterly, revisit the District’s Facilities Master Plan; 2. Update and revise District’s Facilities Master Plan as necessary (special programs, modernization, deferred maintenance, sustainable opportunities, kitchen facilities, expanded learning programs); 3. Communicate and engage sites and overall district community with proposed revisions and updates; 4. Make advisory recommendations to the Superintendent; and 5.Provide an annual update to the Board of Education.
The time commitment is:
September 25: 6-8 p.m.
December 4: 9-11 a.m.
March 17: 6-8 p.m.
May 12: 2-4 p.m.
Please email email@example.com if you are interested. If more than two parents are interested, we will need to choose names from a hat in order to be fair.
Articles of Interest
Frequently we have online articles passed along to us as a staff. In the interest of continuing adult education and sharing information on raising our children, there will be a section in every weekly update with a link to an article. If you have any articles that come across your desk that you’d like to share, please don’t hesitate to email me the link.
Many thanks to those who have already donated to the Solana Beach Schools Foundation. Everyone who gets their donation in before the end of the day on Friday, September 13th will be entered to win a Peet’s Coffee Gift Basket. Also, the first 100 donations to Skyline will receive a gift certificate to Crust Pizzeria! The Foundation is parent-powered, so together, let’s bridge the gap to provide salaries, technology, and educational programs not covered by the state to ensure our children receive a complete, enriched, hands-on education. This year, the suggested donation is $399 per student, but donate whatever you feel comfortable with because our campaign goal is 100% Family Participation. An 8-month instalment payment plan is a great option for those that would like to enroll before October 31st. All donations are used for this school year. Ask your Employer about Corporate Matching to really boost support!
