Dear Solana Highlands Families,
As the new principal of Solana Highlands School, it is an honor to become part of this community. Over the past year, from my first interactions with SH staff, families and students to today, I have been empowered and motivated by the sense of pride the entire community takes in our school. Solana Highlands Elementary School offers an amazing educational experience. That does not happen by accident, it is the result of the hard work, dedication, and partnerships that have developed between, staff, families, and the most important members of our community, the students. Becoming a partner with all these groups is what has most excited me as I walked through the doors of our school.
I have had the privilege of working for the past year as the assistant principal at Solana Highlands. Before that, I spent 18 years teaching in East Whittier, Anaheim, and Solana Beach School Districts. My teaching career has encompassed teaching Transitional Kindergarten, first, and second grade. Prior to teaching, I earned a B.A. and M.A. degree in Developmental Psychology and Behavioral Science. During my teaching time, I have become Nationally Board Certified as an Early Childhood Generalist, earned an Administrative Credential, and I'm currently working on a doctorate in Educational Leadership at CSUSM/UCSD. The commonality of these experiences has been the collaboration with my colleagues to help provide and create opportunities for the most exceptional learning experiences for students.
In keeping with the mission of the Solana Beach School District my greatest initiative will be to engage all the resources available to empower teachers to continue to craft the educational experiences that stimulate passion for learning, to empower parents who are the experts of their children, and to continue to partner together so we can best ensure our student’s potentials are realized. To empower students to challenge themselves and pursue their passions in a safe environment that grows along with them is our goal. A collaborative approach is crucial if we are to be confident our students’ futures will be what we imagine.
I look forward to forging a partnership with everyone associated with Solana Highlands Elementary School. I am truly honored to join this community.
