Sept. 3rd - Sept. 6th

Third grade is a year of transition from the development of skills to the development of independence.  It is a time for students to begin to assume responsibility for their education and become life-long learners.
Language Arts:
This week we are reading "First Day Jitters," Book 1: Unit 1, Story
1. We will focus on the elements of Story Structure and practice writing text based evidence answers using our weekly vocabulary words.
We will begin brainstorming ideas for our first personal narrative.
Exploring Multiplication Concepts
We started our first module (unit) in math:  Multiplication.  The lessons will move students toward understanding familiar repeated addition from Grade 2 in the form of array models, which become a cornerstone of the module.  Students use the language of multiplication as they understand what factors are and differentiate between the size of groups and the number of groups within a given context.  In this module, the factors 2, 3, 4, 5, and 10 provide an entry point for moving into more difficult factors in later modules.
Social Studies:  Geography- It's About Maps
This week we will read,  Zoom.  It will help the students understand the importance of map skills and give them a basic understanding of where they're located in relation to the world.  Students were introduced to the following words:  continent, country, state, community/city, street, house/address.
