Wave Announcements

  • Dear Solana Vista Families,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this letter as we all regroup after the disturbing incident that occurred at Skyline on Monday after school.  I know that you have received updates from our Superintendent, Dr. Lynch, and I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know what we are doing at Solana Vista to ensure that your children are safe.  On Tuesday I met with all staff to review our safety policies and procedures, and to discuss modifications moving forward.  Procedures to ensure your children’s safety include:

    • All doors to the outside will be locked from 8:35 to 2:43, except for our main door, including classroom doors that face the outside perimeter.  Students in classrooms with exterior facing doors will not be allowed to go outside for items in their backpacks without adult supervision.
    • Staff was reminded that all visitors must sign in at the front desk and get a visitor's badge.  Please be aware that it is our current policy that if an adult is walking around our campus without a badge he/she will be asked by our staff to go to the front office to sign in and get a visitor’s badge.
    • At dismissal all students that are picked up on the playground need to wait at their classroom line until their parents arrive for them.  We appreciate you making every effort to pick up your children in a timely manner after school. If picking up your child on time becomes an issue, we would encourage you to sign up with the Child Development Center for after school care.
    • All gates will remain locked until the dismissal bell at 2:43 and all parents/adults are asked to wait outside of the building/campus until that time.
    • Students going to drive through that arrive prior to 2:43 to the main exit will wait quietly in the front hallway until the bell rings.
    • All students that attend the CDC after school enrichment classes will meet their instructor in the Kiva and will then be escorted to their enrichment class.
    • Students attending after school classes that need to use the restroom will be required to go with a buddy.

Please know that student safety is our primary concern as we continue to improve our protocols and procedures.  We will be working with the district office to bring the Play it Safe assembly on Stranger Awareness and Safety to our school in the near future. We appreciate your support complying with and supporting the procedures that we have in place.  If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns regarding our policies, please don’t hesitate to call the office at 794-3700.

  • Amazon

    Dear Solana Vista Families,

Did you know that every time you shop with Amazon, you can support the Solana Beach Schools Foundation, too? The Foundation participates in AmazonSmile, a charitable program through which Amazon donates a percentage of your purchases to a non-profit organization of your choice.

It’s easy to register with AmazonSmile.  When you go to the registration page, select “Solana Beach Schools Foundation” as your charity, and your future purchases will automatically generate donations for the Foundation. Funds earned through AmazonSmile are used to support our school district’s Discovery Labs in Art, Science, Technology, and supplemental P.E., as well as technology purchases and STREAM programming.
