I would like to take this opportunity to highlight a wonderful resource and a very special place where all of our students love to come and learn, our school garden.  This year the Sage Garden Project and our PTA are providing for the third year generous donations of $6,000, which pays for our Garden Coordinator position and many of the necessary gardening supplies.  Because of their generosity, every student at our school will again have the opportunity to work in the garden biweekly for 30 minutes.

Our amazing Garden Coordinator, Jeannie Albaladejo, best known as “Mrs. A.” will focus on our garden to table program, highlighting the different foods from our garden at lunchtime in our cafeteria and tying in the nutritional aspects of the different foods that we grow.  The garden is also a wonderful learning tool for STEM related lessons, and Mrs. A. works closely with our science instructor to provide lessons that incorporate science, technology, engineering and math. A garden is also a special place to learn about patience, nurturing, kindness and caring, and Mrs. A. cultivates these social/emotional aspects as well during garden time.

This year the Sage Garden Project has provided additional funding to our school for an after school Garden Club.  Mrs. A. will be hosting this special opportunity for first, second and third graders beginning October 1st every Wednesday in the garden from 2:45 to 3:45. If you are interested in having your child participate, please fill out the attached application and return it to Mrs. A.  ASAP as space is limited.

Last but not least, Mrs. A. is can always use an extra hand and welcomes parent volunteers, so if you are interested in helping out in the garden, you can email Jeannie at jalbaladejo@sbsd.net, or leave her a message at 794-3700.

    Sincerely,

    Lisa Platt
