New projects and skills await all the Sandpipers this year! Technology Discovery Lab meets weekly as a component of the STREAM Discovery Lab Classes. However the use of technology is occurring throughout the students' school day as students have 1:1 iPads. Students also have access to desktop computers in their classroom pods, media center, and open lab times.
Sandpipers will be busy learning and creating a variety of word documents, posters, brochures, comics, magazine articles, research papers, book reports, spreadsheets, graphs, and audio/visual presentations. The main applications/programs students will be utilizing on desktop computers are Microsoft Word, Pages, Numbers, Keynote, Google Docs, Powerpoint, and Excel.
Students explore digital literacy and citizenship based on the Common Sense Media Instructional Units. Coding lessons utilize the Hour of Code and Scratch. Robotics and engineering concepts are being integrated into the STREAM curriculum for project based learning. Types of robotics and electronics utilized could include Makey Makey, Lego WeDo, littleBits, Mindstorms, Sphero, and Arduino.
