     Dear Solana Vista Families,

Book Fair Coming Soon!  Mrs. Nelson's Book Fair will return to Solana Vista during Parent Teacher Conference Week, November 18 - 22. You may shop before school (8:00-8:30 a.m.) or after school (12:00-3:00 p.m.) in the library. Please note the book fair will only be open before school on Friday, November 22nd, closing promptly at 8:30 a.m. to be packed up before the fall break. Not only is the Book Fair a great opportunity to do some holiday shopping, proceeds from this event support our school library. If you're interested in volunteering at the Book Fair, check your child's Seesaw account for sign up information from Mrs. Rainville. Thank you for your support!

Farmer’s Insurance Open (Jan 23-26, 2020) Tickets Coming Soon: The Solana Beach PTA has an opportunity to sell any day tickets for $35.00 (normally a $65.00 cost).  The best part is that $25.00 of each ticket sold is donated to our PTA.  More details to follow, but mark your calendars for the event and plan on supporting our PTA!

PTA Meeting this week: Please join us for the PTA meeting this Thursday at Solana Vista (9:00 am).  Farmers Insurance Open Tickets will be sold before and after the meeting.

Halloween Candy Drive: Don’t forget to donate your Halloween candy to our American troops serving overseas by November 12.  There is a box in the front hallway to collect your donations.  Please visit thesuperdentist.com for more details about this program.

SV Re-Design Update:  Construction material testing will be performed by Western Environmental during the Thanksgiving break. The work will be performed in and around the existing building and includes testing of stucco and paint. The results will inform certain demolition activities to be performed during construction in June 2020 when the reconstruction of Solana Vista is scheduled to begin. Additional information regarding the Solana Vista Reconstruction Project can be found on the website at https://www.sbsd.k12.ca.us/Page/9273.

Exciting Carnival News!  The final count is complete!  Our Foundation Halloween Carnival brought in over $33,000 this year to support our Discovery Lab/STREAM programs!  Thank you to Melissa Herrington and her team for their hard work, creativity, and can-do spirit!  It was a wonderful event!

Lost and Found!  Missing a sweatshirt, a water bottle or a lunch box??  Don’t forget to check out the Lost and Found.  The SV Lost and Found (which is rather full)  will be on the blacktop or in the Kiva during Parent Teacher Conference week.  Items not claimed by November 22 will be donated to charity.  Thank you!

A little something to think about:

Why teach Digital Citizenship to our students?  Isn’t that for older kids?

It’s important to address the 21st century skill of digital citizenship, in which students connect, collaborate, and communicate responsibly and safely.  Common Sense Media (https://www.commonsense.org/education/video) is a wonderful website with excellent information for parents about digital citizenship.  In addition, take a look at this article: Why is Digital Citizenship Important…Even for Youngest Kids at http://worcestertlc.weebly.com/digital-citizenship1.html.  Mrs. Rainville uses the Common Sense curriculum with each grade level throughout the year to help students begin to develop an understanding of a balanced, healthy digital life.

    Thank you,
