Dear Solana Vista Families,
Thank you to Melissa Herrington and the many volunteers who made the 62nd Halloween Carnival a HUGE success!! It was a wonderful day enjoyed by so many people! The amount of time, volunteers, and work that goes into making this event possible is enormous. Many volunteers worked tirelessly throughout October to prepare for the big day. Yesterday and today, the SV campus was filled with eager helpers starting at 8:00 a.m. Many volunteers spent all day Saturday and Sunday setting up, preparing tamales, running booths, and tearing down. Thank you to everyone who made the day possible, and thank you to everyone who came to the carnival and supported our SBSF!

A little something to think about:
Why do schools have Social Emotional Curriculums? Emotional Intelligence is a “new label” for an old idea—how to be aware of your emotions and how they impact your behavior. Most recently, Emotional Intelligence has been identified as one of the most important skills that people need to be career and college ready. This year, many SV classrooms are utilizing a tool called a Mood Meter to help students begin to identify and manage their emotions. Students have the opportunity to “place” themselves on the visual grid (green, yellow, blue, red). Then through class meetings and peer relations, students can share feelings and realize the impact that emotions have on self and others. To see a Mood Meter and learn more, visit https://www.naeyc.org/resources/pubs/yc/mar2017/teaching-emotional-intelligence. If your child comes home and says something like this: “I was in the blue this morning, but I was able to get back to green by lunch time”, now you will understand what they mean!
