    Dear Solana Vista Families,

Walk/Roll to School Day – Oct. 2:  Did you know that the first Wednesday in October is International Walk to School Day?  We hope that students and parents of SBSD will join thousands around the world by walking (riding and rolling too) to school on that day.  Both Skyline and Solana Vista are excited to be participating.  It is a fun, healthy, eco-friendly, and smart way to get to/from school with benefits for the entire community.  WE hope that YOU will join us!!!

    Thank you…

…to Tom Carter and our Dads’ Club for the yummy Ice Cream Social!  It is always a favorite event among students and staff!

…to Kim Criscuolo, Lauren Adams, and Dawn Seymour for serving as the SV Foundation Presidents and working tirelessly to support our Discovery Lab program!  If you would like to donate, you may visit: https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/SolanaBeachFoundationforLe/SolanaVista.html.

…to Stephanie Singer and her PTA team for the great spirit wear and the awesome support you provide our students and staff!

    Donate for Discovery! Donate Now!

The Solana Beach Schools Foundation kicks off our annual week-long Donate for Discovery campaign. Donate for Discovery aims to help our school community reach the goal of 100% family participation in the Annual Fund Drive. That is why we hope we can count on your contribution! Your donation to the SBSF helps to provide robust educational experiences to our students. Each week our students engage in hands-on, interdisciplinary learning opportunities in STREAM, Art, and supplemental PE Discovery Lab classes. Using the latest technology, materials, and equipment, students apply their knowledge, skills, creativity, and curiosity to solve real world problems at the lab, easel, and on the playing field. Please show your support of Discovery Labs by making your Annual Fund Drive donation during Donate for Discovery Week!

To donate, go to https://www.solanabeachkids.org/campaigns/solana-vista-elementary/.  Or, you may leave your pledge envelope at the Solana Vista front office. Monthly payment plans are available.

These devices may only be used once students have left the campus.”  This includes any type of smart watch such as a gizmo, iWatch, etc.  To access this portion of the parent/student handbook, go to https://www.sbsd.k12.ca.us/site/Default.aspx?PageID=328#Cell.

A little something to think about:

All Learning is Social and Emotional Virtual Book Club

I would love to try something new!  Many of you have mentioned that you have ordered the Social Emotional Learning book that all staff members are reading, and I’m so excited to have you on this journey with us.  I thought it might be fun to share our thoughts with each other as we read the book.  The first chapter gives an overview of the 5 areas of Integrated SEL.

In Chapter 2, the area of Identity and Agency is discussed in greater depth.  If you have read this chapter, I invite you to share your thoughts via an application called Padlet.

How will our children benefit from developing Identity and Agency at an early age?

Once you click you the link:  https://padlet.com/katherinezimmer1/yx4h97o1jmph, click on the + sign and share your thoughts.  It’s that easy!!

    Sincerely,

    Katie Zimmer
