Solana Beach School District  -  “Pop Culture & the Noise It Creates”  with Commander Paul LeBaron

Our kids live in a world different than anything we have experienced.  Consider that anybody born after August 6, 1991, does not know life without the Internet. When we talk to our kids, we hope the message gets through. The “internal noise” (Movies, Video Games, Internet, Music, Television, Texting, Sexting, Emojis, Online Challenges) that comes from Pop Culture is a major deterrent.  The objective of this presentation is to learn to improve communication between adults and kids by identifying the “noise” that is generated from popular culture that makes such communication difficult.  You will learn that it is not enough to know WHAT your kids are listening to ... you must know ABOUT the things your kids are listening to.  Don’t miss out on this important presentation that will be held on

Over the course of his career he has seen the effects of drugs and popular culture on today’s youth and how these create challenges for families. Paul has also worked with the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance for the past 19 years, where he teaches classes on cultural diversity and ethics to law enforcement and educators. In his spare time Paul is also a coach for youth soccer and a volunteer for Boy Scouts of America.
