Dear Carmel Creek Parents and Guardians,
Thank you to Michelle Garcia, PTO President, for running a fabulous first PTO meeting. We are grateful for her leadership. Thank you to Amy Meadows, Volunteer Coordinator, for supporting our room parents and volunteers. If you missed the meeting last week, please feel free to contact Amy for all the important information. We are looking forward to a wonderful year of community building, fostering positive relationships with neighbors and enriching school programs. Ms. Beebe, Kindergarten and Mrs. Skinner from first grade will be the teacher liaisons throughout the year and share attendance at the monthly meetings. Teachers are excited to partner with PTO parents for the following events:
- Fall Festival, Spring Event and the End of the Year Celebration - Mrs. Ray, Mrs. Hjalmarson, Ms. Walker, Ms. Hoefer and Ms. Schroeder
- Fun Run - Mrs. Lothspeich
- Heritage Festival - Mrs. Sutton
Thanks to our many volunteers who have begun supporting instruction by running reading groups, assisting with math groups, supporting art preparations, volunteering in STREAM and much, much more.
You may also see high school students in your child’s classroom. We have a partnership with Torrey Pines High School. Students complete a field work study class in child development by supporting our classrooms. This is always a special experience for both our students and our local teens.
Solana Beach Schools Foundation for Learning
The Donate for Discovery Week is kicking off on Monday September 30 – October 4. Christopher Gardner and Irene Muloni have dedicated the past three school years serving as our site co-presidents. We appreciate the many hours of support shared between our two fearless leaders. Both have spearheaded our phone-a-thons, helped with the annual Fun Run, sought out corporate sponsors and local vendors, attended focus groups, board meetings and spoken at Open House and Back to School Nights. Parents and community members have supported the Solana Beach Schools Foundations for Learning since 1986. The commitment has reached excellent outcomes by preparing our students for college and future careers through award winning programs such as STREAM (Science Technology, Research, Art and Mathematics). All donations go directly to your students this school year, by supporting salaries, enrichment materials for robotics and tinker experiences. We’ve had an excellent early donor response at 22.89%. The site goal is always 100% donor and volunteer participation. We are well on our way!
Our site Foundation supports CCN (Carmel Creek News). Our live news broadcast airs Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week. Each child will have an opportunity to participate. You will be notified in advance and we hope you’ll come watch them live on the set. This week our staff will model two shows for the children. Next week our students will take over as anchors, camera and crew, saying the pledge, weather report, updating our lunch menu, sharing events at school and across San Diego, and reports on sports, holidays around the world, facts about countries, book talks and more. This special program fosters strong speaking and listening skills, civics, social emotional development, leadership, writing skills, turn taking, confidence, communication, cooperation and teamwork. It will be a fabulous CCN year. We are excited to begin CCN programming this week.
