Composting Solana Vista: Key Partners

Solana Vista School
Solana Vista School is one of five elementary schools in Solana Beach School District located in coastal San Diego County. It is a K-3 configuration serving almost 400 students in an integrated classroom setting. Solana Vista seeks to provide a broad-based educational program which instills enthusiasm for learning; develops a mastery of basic skills, critical thinking and problem solving; recognizes and respects the uniqueness of each child and enhances a child's self-esteem; encourages a strong sense of purpose and good citizenship; and provides successful opportunities for all.

Two Solana Vista teachers, Jill Cooper and Stephanie Schroeder, along with Karen Archer, the science teacher who oversaw the children's garden, provided special assistance by integrating the composting program into the overall school curriculum.

Dr. John Daily
Dr. John Daily, a University of California Cooperative Extension trained Master Gardener provided expertise in the establishment and implentation of the composting program. Dr. Daily is associated with Quail Botanical Gardens in Encinitas, California, which has an extensive program for community composting training.

Fishin' Harry Productions
Fishin' Harry Productions, a company which specializes in educational internet projects, originally designed and developed the Composting Solana Vista website.
