Skyline School encourages physical activity and student engagement throughout the school day. It is our goal to support the research that healthy, physically active students are more likely to be academically motivated, alert, and successful. Skyline currently runs intramural programs for flag football in the fall and soccer in the spring during the two lunch hours, and Guidance Counselor, Jill Damaso, coordinates our Fast Feet Walk/Run program twice a week for students in 1st – 4th grade during lunchtime on Monday and Tuesday. Skyline is fortunate to have the Playground Partners Program at lunch recess on Wednesday and Thursday. Playground Partners is sponsored by the Magdalena Ecke YMCA. Parent volunteers are recruited at the beginning of the school year, and are trained to work with a coach from the YMCA. Each Wednesday and Thursday, approximately 4-5 parents and the YMCA coach organize a variety of games and activities. Our students are so enthusiastic and excited to have the opportunity to pick and choose among the different activities. We will continue to find increased opportunities to support physical activity and positive student engagement for the children at Skyline.
