The Solana Beach School District has established a high priority
for learning activities that challenge higher-order thinking skills
and engage students in hands-on activities. Equal access is a key
component to providing the opportunity for students, staff and the
community to use technology to enhance their learning experience
and to prepare them for the requirements of the 21st century. Equity
in placing the right tools of technology and adequate support will
ensure that students, staff and the community will benefit through
their use. The district believes that technology integration enhances
the curriculum and leads to high-performance learning.
To this end,
the district has developed a comprehensive Scope and Sequence,
outlining the instructional technology plan, as well as a Grade Level
Technology Standards document for students, parents and staff which
detail technology skill expectations for each grade level. The Governing
Board encourages the instructional use of computers, videotapes, interactive
videodisks, distance learning, cable television and other technologies.
The Board perceives that these technologies:
• Give students new ways to access information and
practice skills;
• Help teachers meet a wide range of learning styles
and instructional
needs that enable them to move
from whole-class instruction
to a mixture of small-
group and individualized instruction;
• Help students develop reasoning and problem-
solving abilities;
• Will be a part of our students’ everyday lives.
The primary goal of the program is to improve
student academic achievement through a comprehensive use of technology.
It is designed to assist every student in crossing the digital divide
and to ensure students are technologically literate when they finish
sixth grade, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, family income,
geographic location or disability. Solana Beach School District promotes
activities that provide teachers, principals and administrators with
the capacity to integrate technology effectively into curricula and
instruction that are aligned with challenging state academic content
and student academic achievement standards.
