Description of Services

The Solana Beach Child Development Center (CDC) was established in 1980 and operates under the authority of the Solana Beach School District Board of Trustees. CDC is licensed by the State of California Department of Social Services.

The CDC administers several distinct programs. The Preschool and Toddler programs provide services to children from 18 months to 5 years of age. The School Age program provides childcare services to students in grades K-6. We offer afternoon care at all Solana Beach School District elementary schools. In addition we offer an afterschool enrichment program at Solana Pacific Elementary School.

Hours and Days of Operation

CDC operates year-round.

Toddler and Preschool programs:
7:00 am to 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday

School Age program
7:00 am to 6:30 pm, Monday through Friday

Enrollment

The Child Development Center is non-discriminatory. Admission is without regard to color, creed, religion or national origin. Students
are accepted on a temporary basis, pending a determination of the suitability of the program for the child and the ability of the child to adjust to the program environment.

We request that parents visit the programs before enrolling. Please
call to schedule a tour. Enrollment applications are processed in the order in which they are received. Priorities are given to parents of children currently enrolled in the program who want to add extra
days and siblings of children who are currently enrolled.

All registration forms must be completed and on file before a child begins attending the programs.

Preschool and toddler parents must also provide the Center with an up-to-date copy of the child's California immunization card and a completed physician's report.

Toddler Program

The Toddler Program is designed to supplement the loving and nurturing of the family. Teachers encourage positive social
interactions through play. The children participate in art, music,
indoor and outdoor play, and a variety of sensory experiences.
The supportive atmosphere allows toddlers to grow and develop independence in a safe and secure environment.

CDC provides toddlers mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks as well as a nutritious hot lunch.

Parents may choose MWF, T-Th, or M-F schedules. Both full day and half-day programs are available.

Preschool Program

Preschool children must be 3 years in age, completely toilet-trained and developmentally ready for group experiences. The program is designed to foster individuality, independence, creative thinking and creative expression through the arts, problem solving, and decision- making skills. Children are taught to respect the differences in others while learning to work and play cooperatively within a group. Special emphasis is placed on enhancing a positive self-image as a learner in preparation for a successful kindergarten experience.

The afternoon hours provide opportunities for rest and participation
in both indoor and outdoor activities.

CDC provides nutritious mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks.   Preschool children bring their lunch. Milk is provided at lunch.

Parents may choose M-W-F, T-Th, or M-F schedules. Both full-day and half-day programs are available.

Pre-K Plus Program

The Pre-K Plus program accepts children who will be 5 years of age
on or before December 1st of the current school year. Children enrolled in the program attend school Monday through Friday in
a small group setting.

Pre-K Plus is a kindergarten readiness program designed to offer pre-kindergarten children an extra year of growing time. Parents who select this program usually do so because they believe their child is not completely ready in all developmental areas for the most successful kindergarten experience possible.

School Age Program

The School Age program provides care for children in grades K-6.
The program is based on the belief that children should be allowed
to make choices in order to become good decision makers. We
provide a wide variety of enrichment activities including arts and
crafts, group sports, science, games, music and homework time.
Teachers facilitate the development of appropriate social skills,
problem solving, and cooperative skills in a stimulating and safe
environment.

Care is available for modified days, parent-conference days and
Spring Recess. During the summer months we offer a full-day
program that includes field trips and special guests.
